Progress Michigan Releases Polling and News Round-up from Trump’s First 100 Days

MICHIGAN – On Monday, Progress Michigan released a research document highlighting news stories revealing the widespread chaos and damage caused in Michigan by President Donald Trump’s first 100 days back in office. Progress Michigan also released a polling memo showing the majority of Michiganders are not fans of the Trump administration’s actions.

“No matter what spin Donald Trump puts on the damage he is doing to everyday Michiganders, we know the truth. The Trump presidency is costing us more every single day – in our dollars and our freedoms,” said Sam Inglot, executive director of Progress Michigan. “Michigan families are paying the price for this administration that is more interested in political vendettas than people’s lives. We will not stand by quietly and allow this administration to attack the health care, education, and civil rights of our communities.”

Progress Michigan, in coordination with Public Policy Polling, conducted monthly opinion polls during January, February, March, and April of 2025. Michiganders were asked about their opinion on various issues regarding the Trump administration’s actions during the first 100 days including the cost of living, tariffs, eliminating the Department of Education, unchecked executive power, and more. Poll highlights are below and the full memo is here.

A few key takeaways include:

    • More Michiganders overall believe that their life has gotten worse since Trump took office, than believe that their life has gotten better.
    • More than two-thirds of Michiganders believe that Congress and the judicial system should act as a check on Trump’s power.
    • A majority of Michiganders oppose the Congressional Republican budget to cut $1 trillion from Medicaid and food assistance to give the top 1% that $1 trillion in tax cuts.
    • If a candidate for local office is against what the Trump administration is doing, more Michiganders are more likely to support that candidate than are less likely to support them.
    • A majority of Michiganders are concerned about Trump’s tariffs raising costs for everyday household items.
    • A majority of Michiganders are concerned that Trump’s actions during his first months in office will hurt everyday people trying to afford the increased cost of living.
