Maddock’s Call to Cut ISDs Will Devastate Michigan Families
MICHIGAN – In response to a tweet from state Rep. Matt Maddock (R – Milford) that calls to “immediately cut every county intermediate school district,” Denzel McCampbell, managing director of Progress Michigan, issued the following statement:
“In between his homophobic online rants over the holiday weekend, Matt Maddock managed to also call for obliterating Michigan public schools. Defunding intermediate school districts would harm students with disabilities, rural communities, and hardworking teachers across the state, putting our state and our children’s future in jeopardy. Michiganders from Marquette to Monroe will reject these far-right proposals that will hurt our families.
“This is just the latest conspiracy that Maddock is espousing, only this time he’s pushing an agenda that’s literally just Betsy DeVos’ education plans on steroids. Will his House Republican colleagues (or House Majority Leader Matt Hall for that matter) show any common sense and reject this dangerous proposal, or will they continue to stay silent? Maybe Maddock’s car isn’t the only thing of his that should get saran-wrapped, but also his phone and computer.”
