Position: Welcome Week and GOTV Director

Overview

As Michigan takes centerstage on the political landscape for the upcoming elections, students in Michigan have an opportunity to make their voices heard and take leadership on their campuses. For Michigan will empower students to be civic leaders in their community through voter registration, education, and turnout. 

With over 80 colleges and universities in the state of Michigan and nearly half a million students, young voters have the numbers and the power to shape the future of our state through leadership in the electoral process.

We’re building a scrappy and innovative operation to protect and expand democracy by elevating youth leadership across the state in order to empower thousands of college students to take control of their futures, get organized, and vote in the 2024 elections. 

What Will You Do?

The Welcome Week and GOTV Director will use independent discretion and judgment to lead program planning for Welcome Weeks and Get Out the Vote (GOTV) efforts across college campuses statewide; support the Operations department with logistics needs, supply procurement, and other priorities as needed; and work closely with the Data department to set goals and build accountability systems for the Organizing staff using metrics. The Welcome Week and GOTV Director will be expected to be located in Michigan by their start date, preferably in Ann Arbor.  

Responsibilities Include:

  • Independently project manage statewide Welcome Week and GOTV initiatives, including program design, implementation, and execution with a specific focus on Michigan State University and the University of Michigan
  • Work with the Operations department to ensure the Organizing team has the supplies and logistical support necessary to meet their goals and execute successful Welcome Week and GOTV programs 
  • In collaboration with the Data department, use independent judgment to build and maintain interdepartmental systems and structures needed to set and track goals and accountability
  • Clearly communicate and manage across departments to ensure all departments are aligned around Welcome Week and GOTV goals
  • Other duties as assigned by leadership

Who Are You?

As a successful candidate for this job, you will have: 

  • At least two complete cycles of statewide campaign experience in leadership positions, and a background as an organizer
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Be excited to think outside the box to support efforts to empower young people to get involved in the political process.
  • A strong understanding of Google Suite and VAN.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and work long, irregular hours; including weekends.
  • Attention to detail, highly-developed organizational skills, and the ability to communicate with stakeholders across all levels of our organization, both verbally and in writing.
  • Have a driver’s license and access to a reliable car.
  • Be located in the Ann Arbor area.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time while operating a computer and other office machinery.

  • Flexibility to work extensive hours outside of normal operating hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position while driving or riding as a passenger in a motor vehicle because extensive statewide travel is necessary.
  • Must be available on a regular and predictable schedule.
  • Must be able to work on-site.

Job Details: This is a full-time, exemption position.The compensation for this position is $7,000/month and includes a generous benefits package. The position is located in Ann Arbor.
