DTE Delivers Another Slap in the Face to Customers
Instead of shoring up infrastructure, utility giant spends big on corporate flights
MICHIGAN – On Wednesday, the Detroit Free Press reported that Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office has uncovered records showing that DTE Energy has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on corporate flights for their executives. The following response can be attributed to Sam Inglot, executive director of Progress Michigan:
“For years, Michiganders have paid some of the highest utility rates of anywhere in the country, all while experiencing subpar service and inexcusably frequent outages—and instead of strengthening their infrastructure or trying to do better for their customers, DTE Energy is asking for another rate increase, some of which will be used to cover future travel expenses for fancy private jets. Big utilities are out of control, and DTE is one of the worst offenders. Michiganders are sick and tired of footing the bill for excessive salaries and wasteful executive travel for a company that can’t even be bothered to provide decent service. It’s past time for our lawmakers to step up and hold these corporate giants accountable, so that we can work toward a better system focused on providing reliable energy for all.”
