POSITION SUMMARY
The Organizing Manager will support the Executive Directors in leading the growing Oakland
Forward team. This role will lead strategic planning and implementation of campaigns, oversee
and mentor organizers on staff, support in fundraising, as well as administration. The Organizing
Manager will be responsible for having a pulse on internal and external matters, working with
partners and community members and integrating topline issues into campaigns strategy.
● Reports to: Executive Directors
● Hours: Full Time (must be available to sometimes work flexible hours, including
evenings/weekends)
● Location: Oakland Forward office in Pontiac, MI
● Compensation: $55,000 (based on experience), exempt. Competitive benefits, paid time off,
and sick leave.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Campaigns / Field
● Develop campaigns/organizing strategy, based on input by the Oakland
Forward team and its members
● Create annual strategic organizing plan focusing on civic engagement, GOTV, and base building
● Manage, mentor, and support organizers and staff in implementing the
strategic organizing plan
● Manage and oversee the Neighborhood Leadership Academy and the
Neighborhood Block Club, building a pipeline of local community organizers
through leadership development
● Manage and support yearlong canvassing efforts throughout Oakland County
● Manage and support volunteer phone banks and canvassing efforts
● Maintain and build partnerships (locally, regionally, and nationally), especially
within Pontiac, Southfield, Oak Park, Ferndale, Hazel Park, and Royal Oak
Township
● Grow Oakland Forward’s base of volunteers and members, with a focus on
multi-generational base-building
● Engage and build relationships with county legislators and representatives
● Develop communications on for base building/audience engagement based
on campaign strategies

Administration
● Supervise staff/team of organizers and canvassers
● Assist the Executive Directors in preparing program materials, including policy, research,
and analysis
● Provide logistical support for meetings, conferences, and events
● Support Executive Directors in fundraising
● Support Executive Directors in decision making for Oakland Forward as part of the
leadership team

QUALIFICATIONS
● Strong commitment to Oakland Forward’s values and mission, particularly
engaging, equipping, and empowering residents of color in Oakland County.
Oakland Forward’s work focuses on Black and Brown people in Oakland County.
● At least 3-5 years of experience in organizing, especially working in nonprofits, community
organizing, and experience in digital organizing is a plus.
● Experience in managing a team.
● Experience in campaigns and organizing strategy and planning.
● Demonstrated knowledge of how to organize Black and Brown communities throughout
Oakland County.
● Excellent writing, speaking, interpersonal, leadership, time management, and management
skills.
● Proficient in Google Suite (Documents, Sheets, etc.), Microsoft (Word, Excel, etc.), and the Voter Activation Network (VAN). Knowledge of EveryAction, Action Builder, Adobe Suite, Empower, Impactive and Canva is a plus.
● Ability to manage many and varying deadlines in an organized and timely
manner, showing flexibility as needed.
● Excellent analytical and judgment skills as demonstrable by the ability to
assess information and evidence and act strategically.
● Adept at dealing with conflicting/changing priorities.
● Effective at facilitating and organizing meetings.
● Experience organizing independently and part of a team/coalition.
● Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends frequently.
● Must have transportation, car insurance, and a valid Driver’s License.
● Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
