Overview

Progress Michigan is looking for a Multimedia Designer with a focus on front-end web design to join our creative team. The Multimedia Designer is a crucial contributor to our digital projects, focusing on creating visually appealing and interactive websites. The Multimedia Designer is also responsible for assisting in designing content for short-term and long-term projects for Progress Michigan and our partners. We are looking for a candidate who is proficient in both graphic and web design. In this position, work will primarily focus on front-end website development (60%) and the creation of graphics and digital ads formatted for various platforms (40%).

This is a hybrid position that will be mostly remote with occasional travel to organization offices in Lansing and/or Detroit and other events located in Michigan. They will report to Progress Michigan’s Creative Director and will work closely with the rest of the creative team and the Tech Manager to develop websites for Progress Michigan and our partners.

The ideal candidate is passionate about creating engaging and user-friendly interfaces, has a strong background in front-end development, and stays up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies. The ideal candidate can balance multiple projects, is organized, and can work individually and collaboratively. They are comfortable with remote work and communication and have a willingness to learn new creative skills to contribute to the team.

Responsibilities include:
  • Work closely with the team and our partners to assist in creative development.
  • Design, develop, and maintain visually appealing, responsive websites that provide an excellent user experience.
  • Implement and advocate for web design best practices, including SEO optimization, mobile responsiveness, and accessibility standards.
  • Conceptualize and produce digital content including simple landing pages, multi-page websites, static ads, website banners and images, email graphics, social media graphics, and more.
  • Work on multiple projects at once, and consistently meet draft deadlines
  • Stay current with emerging web technologies, design trends, and tools to recommend and implement improvements to our web strategy.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficient knowledge of industry-standard content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, Wix and Squarespace
  • Understands the processes of designing web-related experiences and keeps both UX and UI top of mind.
  • Graphic Design Skills: Proficiency in graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) or other design software to create visual elements for websites.
  • Responsive Design: Knowledge of responsive web design principles to ensure websites function and display properly across various devices and screen sizes.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and other relevant web technologies
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for creative excellence, visual communications, and designing intuitive and impactful web experiences.
  • Must include a portfolio with application

Compensation

This position is a campaign position that will pay a salary of $50,000. Progress Michigan offers a competitive benefits package which includes, Health, Vision and Dental coverage as well as paid vacation, paid sick leave and 401K match.
