Progress Michigan Supports Ottawa County Open Meetings Lawsuit Appeal

MICHIGAN – On Monday, an appeal was filed in response to the recent dismissal of a lawsuit against a group of Ottawa County Commissioners also known as Ottawa Impact. In response,  Sam Inglot, executive director for Progress Michigan released the following statement:

“Our support for this case against the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners is rooted in ensuring that elected officials at all levels are transparent and accountable to the people they represent. Ottawa Impact commissioners broke their promises of transparency when they orchestrated wholesale changes to county government behind closed doors. There is no question that this work needs to be done in public.

“This case is important not just for Ottawa County, but for the entire state. We hope this case sets a precedent so that actions like this will never happen again, and so the public’s business is done in the public square.”

Progress Michigan has been assisting with research and financial support for the case since it was filed in March.
