Progress Michigan Responds to SCOTUS Decision
MICHIGAN – The following response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to dismantle abortion rights can be attributed to Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan:
“It goes without saying that this decision is a despicable, dehumanizing attack on pregnant people’s human right to make their own decisions about their reproductive health. We’ve been expecting this decision for months, but that doesn’t make the loss of abortion rights any less devastating. But while we mourn, we must also prepare to fight back.
“To anyone across Michigan who wants to take action, I encourage you to support reproductive justice organizations that have been fighting this fight for years. This can include donating to abortion funds, sharing resources like abortionfinder.org and INeedAnA.com, supporting efforts to enshrine reproductive freedom in the state constitution, and making sure you’re educated, registered, and ready to vote in critical 2022 elections.
“It’s important today for Michiganders to remember that abortion is still legal in Michigan. There is a current stay on the 1931 law that outlaws abortion, and until the courts decide otherwise, Michigan is still a safe place to seek abortion care.
“Progress Michigan stands in solidarity with all those affected by this decision; we share your outrage, and we are ready to fight like hell for reproductive freedom.”
