Enbridge is Lying to Michiganders about Line 5

Independent researchers contracted by Enbridge call their bluff

MICHIGAN – After years of attacks on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Attorney General Dana Nessel for their work to protect the Great Lakes and shut down the aging Line 5 pipeline, it turns out that Enbridge has based their attacks on lies. New evidence from the Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewa Indians case, which seeks to remove Line 5 from their tribal lands, found a report commissioned by Enbridge showing that shutting down Line 5 would change gas prices by only a half of a cent per gallon. The following statement can be attributed to Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan

“Enbridge’s long history of pollution, misinformation and misleading statements are nothing new, but the latest filings from the Bad River Band case shows their desperation to keep oil flowing through our Great Lakes. Amid record high gas prices, Enbridge uses Line 5 as a weapon to distract us from their reckless fossil fuel agenda. In fact, Enbridge and other fossil fuel corporations continue to earn record profits while we feel the pain in our pocketbooks.

“Every day that this ticking time sits beneath our Great Lakes is a day too long. Republicans in the Michigan Legislature need to get on board with shutting down Line 5 and protect our Great Lakes and all that rely on the world’s largest supply of available, fresh, surface water.”
