Gov. Whitmer’s Propane Plan is Great for Michigan and Great Lakes
We can ensure resilience without Line 5, as plan makes clear
MICHIGAN –– Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s office released the Michigan Propane Security Plan which sets forth how our state can address the need for energy security while protecting our greatest natural resource, the Great Lakes. The plan takes into account years of meticulous coordination and confirms that there are alternatives to providing propane that will protect both the Great Lakes and consumers.
“Governor Whitmer’s Propane Security Plan addresses our health, safety, and economic wellbeing,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “At the end of the day, a leaky oil pipeline like Line 5 isn’t the best option for meeting our state’s energy needs. While corporate lobbyists and Enbridge are spending hundreds and thousands of dollars to spread misinformation about Gov. Whitmer and Line 5, this plan shows she does indeed have a plan for moving our state forward and away from the dangerous pipeline. The Governor’s commitment to protecting the people of Michigan from Great Lakes oil spills is evident in her plan and we commend her for fighting to protect the health of the people of Michigan and our Great Lakes.”
