Shirkey, Chatfield Summoned to White House
Republican leadership should be condemning Trump’s lies, not feeding a coup
MICHIGAN — Progress Michigan released the following statement regarding news that Mike Shirkey and Lee Chatfield have been summoned to the White House by Donald Trump. The statement should be attributed to Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan:
“In a perfect world, Mike Shirkey and Lee Chatfield would go to D.C. and tell Trump it’s over, to respect the will of the people and stop spreading lies about Michigan’s elections. But here’s what’s probably really happening: Shirkey and Chatfield are kowtowing to Trump’s lies and conspiracy theories while ignoring the work they should be doing in Michigan to combat the coronavirus that has infected and killed thousands of people across communities. Shirkey and Chatfield should be standing up to — not participating in —Trump’s sloppy attempt at a coup d’etat.”
