Progress Michigan to Wayne Board of Canvassers: ‘Do Your Job’
Republican Board of Canvassers are reportedly refusing to certify election results
MICHIGAN — Progress Michigan released the following statement regarding information that the Republicans on the Wayne County Board of Canvassers will refuse to certify the county’s election results:
“Monica Palmer and William Hartmann need to do their jobs, end the political games, and certify the election results. This election was fair, free and accurate,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “No canvassing board has ever refused to certify an election. Refusal to certify the results is just a partisan attempt to stretch out the process, feed Trump’s lies about our elections, and set up a right-wing power grab that ignores the will of the people. County canvassing boards are not supposed to be political bodies; they are simply there to look for paperwork errors and correct any that may be discovered. There were no issues raised that would warrant not certifying the results. Republicans — and all members of county canvassing boards — need to do their jobs and move this process forward. The people of Michigan did our job: we showed up in record numbers and made a clear choice for our state. It’s time to move forward and end the right-wing political games.”
