Legislature Pushing Through More Corporate Tax Breaks
Switch Data Center bill continues trend of robbing public services to pay corporations
MICHIGAN — Progress Michigan released the following statement regarding the passage of a SB455, which will give massive tax breaks to one company, Switch Data Center, in West Michigan. Both Democrats and Republicans supported the bill in a close 55-53 vote.
“Communities and public services across Michigan are starving for resources and the Legislature should not be in the business of giving massive tax handouts to corporations,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “Michigan’s roads are falling apart, our schools are underfunded, and community services everyone relies on are getting by on scraps. These corporations have tons of cash to dole out on lobbying efforts, but cannot be bothered with paying their fair share. We must demand better.”
