Progress Michigan to Legislature: Fund Planned Parenthood
State budget proposing cutting funds to health care organization
LANSING — Progress Michigan released the following statement regarding the news that the proposed state budget cuts funding to Planned Parenthood in Michigan.
“Once again, Michigan Republicans have aimed their ire on those seeking health care. Let’s be clear about what the Republican majority is doing — they are attacking the patients who use Planned Parenthood for access to care,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “Planned Parenthood patients receive STI testing and treatment, contraception and cancer screenings. Planned Parenthood served over 45,000 patients in the Title X Family Planning Program in 2017 representing nearly 70 percent of the caseload in Michigan. This is nothing more than a political move designed to score political points for extreme conservatives at the expense of those seeking access to health care. Everyone in Michigan should have access to affordable, safe health and reproductive care.”
