Republican Plan to Take Away Healthcare, Give Tax Giveaways to Wealthy Fails
Unprecedented action by citizens defeats bad bill
LANSING — Progress Michigan released the following statement regarding Speaker Paul Ryan and President Trump’s failure to push the Republican healthcare bill through Congress:
“The failure of Donald Trump and Paul Ryan to push this bill through Congress is a win for all Americans. This bill was not defeated by members of Congress who refused to vote for it, rather it was defeated by the millions of Americans who spoke out, showed up, called, sent emails and demanded that Congress listen to them,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “I can’t be more clear, Americans would have suffered and many would have died had the Republican Congress got their way. The contents of the bill have shown the true intentions of Republicans in Congress. We the people will not relent and will continue to hold members of Congress who choose tax giveaways for the wealthy over the care of Americans accountable, including the members of Michigan’s congressional delegation who pledged to support the bill.”
The members of the Michigan congressional delegation who pledged to support the bill were:
Jack Bergman
Bill Huizenga
John Moolenaar
Fred Upton
Tim Walberg
Mike Bishop
Paul Mitchell
David Trott
