GOP Healthcare Scheme Boon for Wealthy, Hurts Working Families
MI’s Republican Congressional Delegation must stand up for equitable healthcare
MICHIGAN — As the healthcare debate in Washington D.C. heats up, Progress Michigan is calling for the state’s Republican Congressional Delegation to oppose the Republican healthcare scheme and stand up for equitable policies.
“Michigan’s Republican Congressional Delegation, especially those on relevant committees like Fred Upton, Mike Bishop and Tim Walberg, must oppose this healthcare scheme being proposed by their party. It’s a dangerous plan that will lead to cost hikes for families and slash Medicaid coverage, which has been successful here in Michigan,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “Republicans have used ‘Obamacare’ as a talking point for years, but now when the rubber meets the road their best idea is to go backwards to a time when less people were covered, people were paying more out of pocket, insurance companies ruled the roost and healthcare was a privilege only for those who could afford it. It’s a plan that harms women’s healthcare by defunding Planned Parenthood, gives huge tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans and corporations, and ends the Medicaid expansion effort that has provided needed coverage to 640,000 residents in Michigan alone.”
