Betsy DeVos is the most dangerously unqualified Secretary of Education in U.S. History
MICHIGAN — The following statement about Betsy DeVos’ confirmation as Secretary of Education may be attributed to Progress Michigan Executive Director, Lonnie Scott.
“The DeVos family has used their massive wealth to buy legislators, legislatures and now it appears they have purchased a U.S Cabinet position. It speaks volumes that it took a historic tie-breaking vote from Vice President Mike Pence to confirm DeVos. Betsy DeVos is the most unqualified person to ever be nominated for Secretary of Education and has been rejected by half of the Senate – a clear rebuke of her ability to run the department. As a Michigander I am disappointed that her disdain for public education will now be policy for the rest of the country and as a parent I am outraged that my children and their friends will not have a supporter of public education in this position. This sets a horrible example for our children, that it doesn’t matter if you have no experience or qualifications as long as you have enough money, you can buy your way to the top.”
