Progress Michigan Statement on Michigan Recount Effort
Why are Republicans so worried about voter fraud but oppose a recount?
LANSING — Progress Michigan released the following statement regarding the presidential recount effort underway in Michigan.
“Every vote should count in an election. The integrity of the electoral process is priceless. Republicans are decrying the supposed cost to this recount, but were totally fine spending $134 million on the Capitol View building for lavish and unnecessary Senate offices and allowed Gov. Rick Snyder to spend millions in public money for his private legal defense related to the Flint Water Crisis,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “It’s been Michigan Republicans’ wrong priorities that favor corporations that are the cause of the financial stress that local governments find themselves in, not this recount. Additionally, if this election doesn’t deserve a recount, then why has Donald Trump said millions of people voted illegally in this election. The biggest unanswered question of this election is, why are Republicans afraid of a recount?”
