PM on Snyder FOIA Announcement: It’s About Time
For months, Progress Michigan has pushed Snyder to release Flint emails
LANSING — Progress Michigan released the following regarding the news that Gov. Rick Snyder says he plans on releasing all of the documents within his office regarding the Flint Water Crisis:
“We have been pushing the governor for months to release these documents because the people of Flint and Michigan deserve transparency in their government and justice for this crisis,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “We will reserve judgement in calling this a true victory for the people until we see what Gov. Snyder actually releases, but this is a sign that he is caving to the public pressure that has mounted due to his slow and inadequate response to this man-made crisis. It’s a shame that Gov. Snyder won’t live up to his campaign promises about transparency by permanently dropping his exemption from the Freedom of Information Act, so we cannot be satisfied with this until there is complete accountability. That starts with comprehensive FOIA reform, something Progress Michigan will continue to fight for.”
