Botched Investigation Leads to Full-Blown Legislative Circus
Cotter’s handling of situation leaves more questions than answers
LANSING — Progress Michigan released the following statement regarding the investigation — if one can truly call it that — looking into the actions of Rep. Cindy Gamrat and Todd Courser and the Michigan GOP’s rush to pass expulsion resolutions to protect House Speaker Kevin Cotter.
“This entire investigation has been a charade. Speaker Kevin Cotter has turned the institution of the House of Representatives into something only Richard Nixon could be proud of,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “From the beginning, this mockery has tarnished the reputation of the entire legislative body and if the Speaker continues to push expulsion resolutions for a vote without a full and independent investigation, including into his own conduct, he should immediately step aside and let someone with real leadership ability lead the House.”
