WDIV Anchor Apologizes On-Air for Remark About Arab American Community
Progress Michigan applauds effort to correct mistake
DETROIT — On Thursday night, WDIV anchor Carmen Harlan apologized on-air for comments she made that disparaged Detroit’s Arab American communities after Progress Michigan and other organizations, including the National Network for Arab American Communities, called for her to do so.
“Carmen Harlan did the right thing by apologizing for the remarks she made,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “As a respected journalist who has been a staple in Detroit, we believe Harlan meant no ill will in her comments, but they were still dangerous and needed to be addressed. We appreciate the swift and sincere apology Harlan offered.”
The apology was made during the 11 p.m. WDIV broadcast and can be viewed here.
