Progress Michigan Calls on Rep. Al Pscholka to Apologize for Insensitive Remarks
Rep. Al Pscholka uses derogatory language to describe the LGBT community and people with mental illness
LANSING — Today, on the House floor, Representative Al Pscholka (R-Stevensville) attempted to use humor during the debate on bills to deregulate the installation of chair lifts. However, Rep. Pscholka’s attempt at humor was nothing more than derogatory language aimed at the LGBT community and persons with disabilities.
Pscholka, when referencing California, referred to it as the “land of fruits and nuts.” The Urban Dictionary defines this term as, “Derogatory, stereotypical; used in present day to refer to California. The fruit represents homosexuals, nuts to crazy people, hippies. Sometimes directly refers to San Francisco and its liberal mentality.”
“Rep. Pscholka should immediately apologize for his sophomoric and offensive behavior,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “He should remember that he’s serving in the Michigan House of Representatives and isn’t attending an open mic night at a comedy club in Stevensville.”
