Governor Snyder Chooses Partisan Politics Over Michigan’s Students
Move of School Reform office to DTMB strictly a partisan political move
LANSING — Today, Progress Michigan is calling on Gov. Rick Snyder to explain to Michigan residents why he chose partisan politics over the best interests of Michigan’s students. An executive order issued by Snyder moves the school reform office from the Michigan Department of Education to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management, and Budget. The order was issued at the same time that the Michigan State Board of Education, a board with a Democratic majority, is interviewing finalists to replace outgoing Superintendent Mike Flanagan.
“Once again, Governor Snyder is choosing partisan politics and his own personal power over the best interests of students and the wishes of the electorate,” said Sam Inglot, spokesman for Progress Michigan. “It’s plain to see that moving this office from the department responsible for education is nothing more than the Governor trying to avoid accountability by the elected Board of Education.”
