Progress Michigan to Snyder: Don’t Appeal Marriage Equality Ruling
Gov. Snyder has an opportunity to get on the right side of history
LANSING — Today, Progress Michigan urged Gov. Rick Snyder to not appeal U.S. District Judge Mark Goldsmith’s January 15th ruling in favor of marriage equality. The ruling stated that Michigan must recognize the over 300 same-sex marriages that occurred in March 2014. Snyder must decide whether to appeal or not by Thursday.
“Gov. Snyder has consistently been on the wrong side of history when it comes to LGBT civil rights, choosing to side with intolerance rather than equality,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “Now is the chance for the Governor to get on the right side of history and show some support for the LGBT community by not appealing the decision. The Governor’s track record of discriminating against loving families doesn’t inspire confidence, but we’d urge him to make the right choice and support LGBT equality.”
