SB934 is a Political Ploy to Silence the Will of Voters, Not About Helping Workers
Progressives must rally against political gamesmanship, push for real wage increase
MICHIGAN — On Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville, R-Monroe, introduced SB934, a bill that is designed to scuttle a progressive campaign to help working families get out of poverty. Progress Michigan is calling on progressive activists and lawmakers to call the bill what it is and to push for a real raise for hardworking Michiganders.
“This bill is not about raising the minimum wage, it’s proof that conservatives in Michigan are running scared because of the grassroots campaign to raise the minimum wage. Once again, the conservative legislature seems more interested in fighting for corporate greed than listening to Michigan voters,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “The public overwhelmingly supports increasing the minimum wage to $10.10 and any legislator out there who claims to be a progressive would do well to vote against this petty political attempt to subvert the will of the voters.”
