“Temper tantrums.”
“Time out.”
No matter how Republicans have spun state Reps. Lisa Brown and Barb Byrum being muzzled on the House floor, it’s still wrong.
Rep. Wayne Schmidt in an interview with Michael Patrick Shiels recently described it as “a time out.” Listen:
“You know, as I said to someone up north here, it’s like giving a kid a timeout for a day you know, hey, timeout, you went a comment too far, you spoke your piece, we’re going to let these other people have their dissenting comments, and then we’ll get back to business.”
This only draws more attention to the inherent disrespect women serving in the legislature are unnecessarily encountering.
Why are female lawmakers being regarded and described as children?
There are just 4 women serving in the State Senate, and 27 in the House.
It is past time for those numbers to accurately reflect the population, and for Republicans to remember the constituents they represent.
