After demanding Obama produce birth certificate, Raczkowski must now show his
LANSING – Citizens group Progress Michigan demanded today that Rocky Raczkowski prove he is who he is by producing a legal birth certificate with the name “Rocky” printed on it, especially since Raczkowski demanded that President Obama show his birth certificate to prove his identity as a U.S.-born citizen – something Obama has done repeatedly.
“If President Obama can show us his birth certificate, then so can Rocky Raczkowski – if that is his name,” Progress MichiganExecutive Director David Holtz said. “Since the only proof of identity that Rocky Raczkowski and his extremist supporters will accept is a legal U.S. birth certificate, he needs to show voters his birth certificate to clarify his own identity and show once and for all that his name is indeed ‘Rocky Raczkowski.’ The people of Oakland County need to know they aren’t voting for an impostor – and we’ll even accept a Hawaii birth certificate.”
According to the Associated Press, Raczkowski demanded President Obama prove his identity as a natural-born U.S. citizen – a constitutional prerequisite for becoming president – by showing his birth certificate (AP, 8/5/2010). At a June forum in Novi, Raczkowski said: “You have a president that seems to be, um … well … I don’t know if he even has been born in the United States, but … until I see a birth certificate.” The forum was sponsored by a Tea Party group.
Raczkowski repeated his insistence on seeing Obama’s birth certificate, telling Politico: “I stand by the comment. … I believe this: He is our president of the United States, he is the president of the United States, and I guess my question is … I would love to see his birth certificate.” (Politico, 8/5/2010)
Raczkowski repeatedly uses the name Rocky in public.
Obama’s Hawaiian birth certificate has been made public, along with newspaper birth notices published when he was born in 1961. Hawaii officials have also repeatedly confirmed Obama’s citizenship. To this day, right-wing extremists called “birthers” have wrongly claimed Obama was not born in the United States, making him ineligible to become president.
“What’s good for President Obama should also be good for Rocky – so he has nothing to hide and should have no problem showing voters his birth certificate,” Holtz said. “The fact of the matter is that an ‘Andrew Raczkowski’ has been running around Oakland County passing himself off as ‘Rocky Raczkowski,’ and we need an end to the confusion. If his birth certificate doesn’t show the name ‘Rocky,’ then the voters of Oakland County have every right to wonder whether this person who supports extremist, right-wing fear-mongering is who he says he is and whether he ultimately deserves their vote.”
Progress Michigan launched a petition drive calling on Raczkowski to show his birth certificate.
