Update: Senate Fight Ahead as Strong Water Protections Pass House

The time to stand up for Michigan’s water is now. Legislation has recently been passed in the State House to protect the Great Lakes and Michigan’s inland lakes and rivers, but the fight is far from over.

The State Senate is listening to powerful special interests who want to open water to withdrawal. Under this plan, the Senate would allow up to 25% of some of our precious lakes and rivers to be withdrawn. If that wasn’t bad enough, the Senate allowed provisions that undermine public control over our water. Without strong laws that support public control of the Great Lakes, our state is vulnerable to corporations that seek to export and misuse our water.

Don’t allow our inland lakes, rivers and aquifers to be available to the highest bidder. Michiganders, we have a special duty to protect our lakes, rivers and aquifers – our drinking water sources.

Tell your State Senator to stop listening to special interests and stand up for Michigan’s greatest natural resource. Make sure they realize that our lakes, rivers and aquifers—our drinking water sources—are all connected in the Great Lakes system. Tell them to strengthen public control of our water for future generations.

Time is of the essence. Please take action now. Send the message to the State Senate that our Michigan Water is NOT FOR SALE!!!
