Tomorrow night Governor Jennifer M. Granholm will be giving her annual State of the State speech. Live coverage of the speech will be featured across the state and for the first time, 2 progressive blogs will be featuring live-blogs from the Capitol. Be sure to check out Blogging for Michigan and Michigan Liberal for their coverage.

The Governor's address is designed to recap the previous year's events and set forth her agenda for this year. There's likely to be a myriad of issues on the plate and Michiganders across the state are eager to hear her message.

What kinds of things are you hoping to hear the Governor talk about? What do you think Michigan needs to move forward? Feel free to post your thoughts before the speech and then come back and give us your reaction afterwards.

In a perfect world...

What I'd like her to say I know she won't. I'd love for her to refer to the Republicons as "motherf'ers", not the whole word as I know that'll be bleeped. In fact, I would sit down with a bottle of liquor (haven't decided which one yet) and a shot glass, and take a drink everytime she says it. It would make an outstanding drinking game.:)

But this is politics and you have to watch what you say. So instead I would like the Governor to constantly thank Mike Bishop and the Repugs in the Senate for helping to pass the tax increase.

How Michigan leads the nation again in technology and innovation
By User from Linden, MI Jan 28th 2008 at 6:21 pm EST
I should hope Gov. Granholm will be telling Us about all the innovative industries she is bring and wooing to MI.
We have had enough of the Dinosaurs, the ones who have stirred not only Us but the country away from Alernative Fuels and Eco Friendly manufacturing. The big three have used the spirit of the Michigander to launch their now Multi National corporations- with out any regard for those who got them there.
We have the infra structures, the work force and the Instituions of higher learning to once again lead this country into a new century/ millenia.
WE can also focus on making industry the tool for humanity it was meant to be.
I want to hear her say We will no longer be the slaves to the Industires that have left US High & dry for the last 35 yrs- as Workers and as Consumers. they will evolve and move forward or we will leave to parish. No more favoritism for the Ol' Cronies. We must begin to Woo the industries of the Future.
I'd also like to hear her address the use of Different Primary Ballots- esp the Dem Ballot.
Explain the logic the Sec of State had for having different ballots printed and thus requiring special 'pre programming' for the scantrons to differentiate the various ballots.Seems the SS would rather blow money and create more confusion than run a Primary where there is no doubt about it's validity. As the Gov. of this state she should request a Hand Recount and Lands Resignation.
I hope Gov. Granholm has a lot to say because she has a lot to explain (along with many MI Dem's in office- state & Fed)

State of the State
I would hope that Governor Granholm will address the energy crisis and what part the State of Michigan could play in assisting in the recovery of our world-wide energy crisis. There is, in fact, such a thing as "Clean-Coal Technology" and it is the single cleanest technology available to us today. Plasma Gasification Technology (PGT) creates synthetic gas (syngas), from virtually all forms of waste products, which in turn creates a number of downstream products such as synthetic diesel (syndiesel), synthetic jet fuel or even medical grade glycerin. PGT is virtually emission free, which means zero emission of greenhouse gases (the carbon dioxide is used in the various processes) . The State of Michigan can accept all of the trash that Canada is exporting, levy a tipping fee (revenue stream) and turn the trash to fuel or electricity. Thousands of jobs would be created during the construction and the operation of the new biorefineries. Our air and waters would be cleaner as we moved in the direction of energy independence. South Africa has been, successfully, using this technology for over 20 years. Why are we, the USA and more importantly the State of Michigan, 20 years behind South Africa in our pursuit of energy independence???

Gov. Granholm - State of the State
By User from Commerce Township, MI Jan 29th 2008 at 10:51 am EST
The governor needs to address the fact that Michigan is the only state in the country whose citizens lost their right to legal redress if they, or a loved one, are harmed or die from a FDA approved drug. This law was passed in 1995 under John Engler's administration. Thousands of Michiganders have been injured by FDA approved drugs. They were denied their civil right of legal recourse in Michigan, and because our law prevails outside of Michigan--throughout the country. Although there is bipartisan support to appeal the law, and House and Senate bills have been written for rescission, Mike Bishop, Senate Majority Leader, has stonewalled a Senate vote to do so. Mr. Bishop has been busy, however, working to "protect state legislators' free lifetime health care and $79,000-a-year base salary." Quote from: The Oakland Press: Opinions, Jan. 9, 2008.
