ELECTION REFORM
Over the last few decades, Michigan has gone from a leader in terms of Election Reform to the laughing stock of the Midwest. We would like for the Gov. to address how Michigan is lagging behind the rest of the country especially neighboring states on issues such as Election Day Registration, Vote-by-Mail, Early Voting, Purging issues, Provisional Ballots and No Reason Absentee Voting. After it is addressed at the State of the State we would like to meaningful steps taken which would allow for discourse on the subject and ultimately result in bills being introduced and passed.
DRIVER'S RESPONSIBILITY FEE
With the announcement of a budget windfall and surplus, we would like to for the Gov. to address the probems with Driver's Responsibiity Fee and institute an immediate moratorium on the assessment and collection of the fee until the legislature has repealed it. This fee has destroying a number of hardworking Michiganders financially and in our mind is unconstitutional. It has helped to balance the budget on the backs of hardworking poor and middle class families. With the enforcement of the voter ID law this fee has the potential of deterring hundreds of thousands of voters from participating elections because their licenses may be suspended at the time.
INSURANCE REDLINING AND REFORM
We would fo the Gov. to once and for all deliver true insurance reform on behalf of the people by ending redlining practices and making insurance rates equal for all. Urban dwelllers subsidize the system through the astronomical rates we are forced to pay for auto and homeowner's insurance.
