Michigan Voice, part of the national State Voices network, is a state based collaborative formed in 2005 to improve long-term coordination, communication and joint issue work among nonprofit civic, voter and advocacy organizations in Michigan. The nonpartisan, 501©3 mission of Michigan Voice is to engage historically underrepresented and socially responsible citizens in a common issue agenda and in our democratic process.

Michigan Voice seeks a new fulltime Director to begin work in January of 2009. The Director will coordinate the collaborative, which is made up of member representatives from faith, civil rights, choice, youth, labor, disability, environmental, civic, LGBT, women’s rights, education, and other communities. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Identify and provide key services (ex. central polling, voter file, re-grants, media hubs, training, etc) that Michigan Voice should provide its partner organizations
  • Write and implement the organizational plan and budget for the collaborative
  • Raise funds required to support an estimated $1 to $1.5 million annual budget
  • Manage the staff and consultants required to implement the Michigan Voice plan
  • Outreach to organizations (local, state, and national affiliates) to build the reach and depth of the collaborative membership
  • Plan for long-term organizational growth work with other State Voices affiliates

Qualifications: Work experience with issue advocacy organizations, campaigns and/or diverse coalition development is strongly encouraged, as well as:

  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • A passion for the work being done by the partner organizations;
  • Ability to see and develop a vision for a social justice movement in Michigan;
  • Strong communication skills both written and interpersonal
  • Knowledge of fundraising, budgeting and grant making

Compensation: Salary negotiable based on background and experience. Full benefits package included.
