Communications Specialist, SEIU Healthcare

SEIU Healthcare Michigan is Michigan’s largest local union with more than 55,000 members. The union is comprised of Registered Nurses, home care workers, nursing home aides and hospital support staff who are united to ensure access to quality healthcare for all.

Call Center Manager
• Market call center to outside groups.
• Run Member Activism/ Politician Accountability campaigns at least twice monthly.

E-Advocacy
• Grow SEIU Healthcare Michigan’s member email database.
• Expand the usage of the Convio email advocacy system.
• Reach out to online oriented members to build a base of member bloggers that could regularly post on high traffic blogs on the issues important to our members.

Website Manager
• Expand the functionality of SEIU Healthcare Michigan’s website, gather and post materials for the website (articles, videos, photos, etc) and keep website current with regional/statewide/national issues.
• Establish and update SEIU Healthcare Michigan’s member/officer blog on our website.

Online Presence/Branding
• Outreach to members through social networking sites such as Facebook/MySpace and explore member communications through “new media” (YouTube, Twitter, etc.).
• Brand SEIU Healthcare Michigan online by exploring online advertising, working to link with coalition partner’s websites, constructing a Wikipedia page, etc.

Job Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field is preferred. Candidates should have good written and verbal skills, freedom to work irregular hours, including weekends, and to travel as needed. A valid driver’s license and working automobile are required.
