Environmental Education Manager, Urban Options

The Education Manager is responsible for developing and coordinating all programs, contracts and grant projects pertaining to: A.) Recycling, Compost and Sustainability Education, B.) Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Education, C.) Energy and Sustainability Seminars and Tours. The Education Manager will promote energy and sustainability programs in a proficient, energetic and effective manner resulting in education and market transformation in the energy and environmental field.
Duties
- Work to establish Urban Options as one of Michigan’s leading and authoritative voices on energy efficiency and sustainability.
- Serve as program manager for all aspects of seminars and tours including; promoting, scheduling, and conducting energy and sustainability workshops at the Demonstration House and other venues off-site.
- Conduct research and develop energy education lessons and related activities that correspond to the mission of Urban Options.
- Responsible for facilitating the development and implementation of strategic long-range plans pertaining to ongoing educational programs and arising opportunities.
- Update and maintain energy and sustainability exhibits and displays, which include but are not limited to the Demonstration House and Urban Option’s outdoor landscape.
- Seek out and pursue fundraising opportunities, including grants and other sources of income in order to ensure the long-term support of Urban Options’ educational programs.
- Establish and maintain contact with current and potential donors, foundations, governmental agencies, strategic partners, and members.
- Attract, train and supervise highly qualified volunteers and interns for educational programs and develop a productive, self-motivated, and positive work environment.
- The candidate will attend conferences, meetings, and related events that will 1.) Provide quality energy/sustainability education curricula and materials to strengthen Urban Option’s educational programming and 2.) Strengthen partnerships with organizations, businesses, schools, municipalities and individuals whose focus is environmental education.
Qualifications:
- The qualified candidate should have an academic degree in energy or environmental education, or related field, as well as a minimum of 3 years in grant writing and program management.
- This position requires strong management skills with administrative/organizational experience in a leadership role within the field of energy conservation, energy efficiency and sustainability (or closely related field).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to act independently, and the capability to develop energy education programs on behalf of the organization are required.
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications is required.
- Must possess demonstrable leadership skills, creativity, and innovation in previous and/or current position(s).
- A nonprofit background is preferred.
- Experience in marketing as it relates to promotional literature, development of educational materials and displays, and design and development of website content to promote educational programs is strongly preferred.
