Green Media Coordinator Project Activities, E. MI Environmental Action Council

This is an full-time, paid, internship with the East Michigan Environmental Action Council.

  • Consult with and assist the EMEAC Education Director in all
    aspects of EMEAC’s Green Media program (30%)
  • Carry out the goals of the Environmental Arts and Science lab (10%)
  • Coordinate and facilitate teacher support meetings (15%)
  • Coordinate events – event location, food, trainers, etc. (10%)
  • Responsible for outreach to schools and youth organizations (10%)
  • Work with Executive Director to evaluate program effectiveness (15%)
  • Work with Development Coordinator to find funds for the Green
    Media program (5%)
  • Coordinate GREEN SCREEN Youth Environmental Short Film Festival (5%)

The Green Media Coordinator will work directly with EMEAC’s Education Director Lottie Spady. (through Americorp)

Assist EMEAC in accomplishing our vision and values, by working toward the following goals:

  • Foster the development of leadership skills among middle-school and high-school- aged Detroit area children
  • Enhance youth awareness about environmental issues of importance in Southeastern Michigan and globally
  • Inform school personnel, students, and community members on
    current environmental policy
  • Inform policymakers on current environmental concerns through community and youth activities
  • Increase awareness and knowledge of a wide range of environmental careers, through exposing youth to professionals and community advocates, with an emphasis on women and people of color
  • Enable youth to engage in environmental stewardship activities in their own community
  • Create environmental awareness through short film programs
  • Provide curriculum support for Detroit area schools and teachers that enhances science instruction, environmental awareness, leadership development and awareness of environmental careers
  • Promote environmental cooperation across groups

Specific skills required for the position.

  • Education or interest in the environment.
  • Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience working with various forms of media and an interest in “green design”

Some college (or graduate) preferred but not required

Compensation and benefits for position (through Americorp) 40 hrs/week – 1 year position – $11,100 annual stipend – $4,725 towards educational training or to repay student loans – health care benefits
