Program Coordinator, Campaign for Justice

Position Summary:
The Campaign for Justice is a nonprofit organization founded in 2008 that is seeking legislation to reform Michigan’s failing public defense service delivery system. The Campaign also provides staff support for the Michigan Public Defense Task Force, a founding organization of the Campaign.

The program coordinator for the Campaign will work with the director and deputy director to develop and implement the Campaign’s strategic plan, which is designed to: (1) develop broad-based, bi-partisan support for public defense reform; (2) educate policymakers and key constituencies on the need for public defense reform; and (3) successfully advance legislation to reform Michigan’s trial-level public defense system. The program coordinator provides the staff support necessary to achieving the Campaign’s legislative advocacy, communications and organizing goals. The program coordinator will also provide related and ongoing Task Force program administrative and programmatic support. The program coordinator reports to the Campaign director.

Key Responsibilities:

Website management

  • Manage website, including online content, list-serv/action alerts, and membership database updates.

Administrative support

  • Provide support for Campaign and allied organization outreach and communications; Public Defense Task Force meetings, member and event support; Campaign meeting management, event coordination, materials printing and dissemination, assist with appointments and scheduling for staff and speakers, assisting with venue set up and logistics.
  • Organize conference calls, meetings and trainings for Campaign board, staff and affiliates, as required.
  • Office management, including data collection, maintenance of online and hard copy files, supply ordering, travel arrangements, assisting executive director, and other duties as may be required.
  • Assist with grant reports, meeting minutes, and administration of collaborative(s), as required.

Member/public relations

  • Respond to calls from members, stakeholders and the general public, making referrals and ensuring prompt follow-up, as required.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education required. Work experience with advocacy organizations and campaigns a plus. Excellent writing, computer (Microsoft Office programs), website management and communications skills required. Must be organized, detail oriented, and able to work effectively under pressure individually and in team settings. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across multiple communities and in diverse settings are a must, as well as a demonstrated commitment to civic engagement, non-profit capacity building and collaboration. Some travel, weekends and evenings required.

Compensation: This is a full-time, 40-hour a week, grant-funded position. Benefits package included.
