Blogger, Campus Progress

Are you a talented blogger or writer? Do you want a bigger venue for your ideas and reporting?
We need bloggers. Bloggers who are willing to take on a significant commitment, post at least once every weekday (and occasionally on weekends), and help make Pushback one of the most important blogs around. In exchange, members of our team will receive a monthly stipend, and, more importantly, the exposure that will come from being part of a smart, vibrant, and fast-paced online publication. Millions of readers have visited CampusProgress.org to read our journalism, opinions, and interviews with people like Stephen Colbert, Margaret Cho, Russell Simmons, Markos Moulitsas, Barack Obama, Brian Schweitzer, Seymour Hersh, Christiane Amanpour, Majora Carter, Van Jones, Paul Krugman, Janeane Garofalo, Al Franken, Dave Eggers, Noam Chomsky, Elizabeth Edwards, and MIA. We intend to bring these readers—and many others—aboard as we launch Pushback. If you’re looking to build a career as a writer, journalist, or activist, becoming a Pushback blogger will help give you the jumpstart you need.
As we assemble our team of 10-15 bloggers, we’re much more concerned with applicants’ writing style and ability, interests, analytic skills, and sense of humor than with prior blogging experience. And we want Pushback to feature a diverse group of bloggers from all sorts of different backgrounds. So if you’ve shrugged off blogging so far or are a member of a group that mainstream blogging tends to ignore, it’s all the more reason to apply.
We’re looking for bloggers who…
- are smart, witty, and unpredictable.
- care and are knowledgeable about issues and progressive politics.
- are more concerned with having smart opinions than loud ones.
- are sick of the canned split-screen debates served up on cable news.
- are willing to work hard to be part of an important new online voice.
If you think you fit the bill, here’s what we need:
- Two or three of paragraphs explaining why you want to be a part of our team
- A resume or one-page summary of who you are and what you’ve done
- A paragraph or two detailing your political and cultural interests (the more specific the better)
- Three sample posts covering topics of your choice. If you’re new or new-ish to blogging, don’t fret: simply check out a few blogs (we recommend Political Animal, The Plank, and Tapped) and do your best.
